Gun Control
I will undoubtedly encounter the greatest amount of opposition to this, but I do not think people should be allowed to carry concealed weapons without a permit. There, I said it. Sorry Andrew. Why shouldn't people be allowed to carry concealed weapons without a permit? Well, I have my own personal belief that carrying concealed weapons doesn't make anyone any safer. For example, you are sitting at a Starbucks and a man walks in with what looks like a gun in his jacket. You are unsure what to do. So, you call the cops and report the suspicious man to police, who respond by drawing their weapons at the man and forcing him to the ground. They search him and find the gun in his jacket. He doesn't have a permit for the gun. What was he doing toting a gun around into a coffee shop? What happens if someone mistakes him for a robber? There are a host of frightening scenarios that I am sure will come into fruition as soon as Arizona ensures its citizens can carry their weapons concealed and without a permit.

and when said guy actually is a robber? oh thats right, he wouldnt be carrying a gun because criminals abide by the law.
ReplyDeleteAndrew my sweet Andrew. I love you but I want to smack you sometimes with the butt of a rifle. So, what you are saying is that carrying concealed weapons makes people safer?
ReplyDeletethats called a butt stroke. and yup, thats precisely what im saying ;).
ReplyDeleteAn armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.
Stroking ones butt sounds polite. I don't believe your argument at all. Look at societies in which almost everyone is armed: Liberia, Somalia, Iraq, etc. These countries have serious safety concerns. I don't think guns have made anyone there safer. Do you drew?
ReplyDeleteso youd rather have genocide? someone will always have guns, and when their victims are defenseless... well you get the idea.
ReplyDeleteDrewby, gun ownership is one thing, but walking around with concealed weapons without a permit is quite another
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Melissa and I don't think you should be at all hesitant about stating your position because it's the correct one. I got rained on heavily with thumbs down for stating my postion so I know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteAllowing anyone, without a permit, to carry a concealed weapon is like capitulation. It's like saying law enforcement doesn't work so let untrained citizens decide who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. It's a step backwards towards lawlessness and also a step backwards away from civility. I believe that of course we all need self defense but if we want less bad guys, we need more good cops and better Judaical system.
I realize it's a tougher and more expensive sell and a longer haul however. But why just give up? It's like saying the system's broken and can't be fixed.
Bruce, that was so well written. I could not have said it better myself. I have been arguing with Andrew for a long time about gun control. He thinks that because he is a responsible gun owner, that makes the majority of American gun owners responsible.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we pay our Law Enforcement officers to keep the peace on the streets. It would be absurd to just let people run wild in the streets like the old west. There are laws for a reason concerning gun ownership.
Of course there's a reason for the laws; complete control. An armed man is a citizen, an unarmed man is a subject.
ReplyDeleteTo get back to the original topic, Az was shall issue, what this bill does is save Americans some time and money. Its absurd to assume because a right has been restored, the place will resemble a spaghetti western.
Criminals ALREADY carried without permits prior to this bill passing. Now people will have the means to defend themselves from said criminals, without having to pay the government for the "privilege".
Melissa, I'm a life-long member of the NRA and I agree that one should have to obtain a permit in order to carry a concealed gun. Permits should also be granted largely based on education. Actually the only reason I'm commenting here is because I think you and I should start dating immediately. I'm a lawyer here in Los Angeles, 29, and very handsome (and in a rugged non-sissy way). How did you want to get started? Perhaps you can email me your phone number. RendezvousSB@yahoo.com
ReplyDeletehahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteOMG! As a man of considerable substance and panache, I make a serious overture in an attempt to court you... AND YOU LAUGH AT ME! In public too! Unbelievable. I hope you get rained on today.
ReplyDeleteLol Rendezvous, you are too much.
